Whilst I agree with a vastly reduced state, I can't quite subscribe to levels of £0!

I take your point Matt, but comparing two papers 10 years apart, when you have the existing knowledge and background is akin to (very slightly!) playing the lottery when you know the winning numbers.

Fair point on reasoning aspect.

I understand your point of view however Marie brought home an a level physics paper for me to play at a couple of years ago and I have to say that it was infinitely easier than my Matric final paper in SA in 1997.

Where the paper was really letting students down was in the application of reason and demonstration of a broader understanding of the environment in which the physics were being tested. It was as if all the experiments were happening in a laboratory in space.

I cannot speak for the rest of the subjects but physics has certainly got easier/simpler.

Everest is easier today because of better equipments and training but lots of people are still killed climbing it. Hillary just proved that it was possible. Once people believe something is possible, psychological barriers, the single biggest barrier to human performance are removed.

Interesting case study, but I would point out that I represent more people in Sale than Romaine Quinn does in Wisconsin. Rice Lake is hardly New York.

I would point out that I do not doubt the efficacy of elected representatives once they get in, I was merely pointing out that, if I was at a PPC selection meeting, and two candidates were in front of me, one of which was a 20-year old straight out of college, and another was a man in his late twenties upwards, with career experience in the real world, I know who I would pick.

When I saw the uproar about this, I thought it was about a mosque being built 'ON' Ground Zero, which I would not agree with.

It's not being built on Ground Zero though, it's being built in already established area two blocks away, converting a disused factory.

From a victims relative, "Denying them the ability to build a mosque… would be like London denying the Roman Catholic Church the opportunity to build a church during the years of the IRA bombings."

Yes indeed. Following 9/11 and the subsequent attacks, politicians from the US & UK were keen to stress the distinction between a distorted extremist version of Islam and that followed by the vast majority of muslims. Although their view is, in my opinion, a bit simplified, you cannot hope to defeat extremism by persecuting the moderate. Would these same politicians object to a church being built in Waco?
