About Me
Who am I, and why should you be reading this?
Firstly, I’m hopeful that in being on my website, you know that I’m a Councillor the the City Ward (covering Chester City Centre and the University, as well as thousands of residents) on Cheshire West and Chester Borough Council (a new Unitary Authority as of April 1st 2009).
I’m 26 years old, live with my wife in Chester, and moved to the area almost 4 years ago from Anglesey after studying Law and Criminology at Keele University in Staffordshire. As far as my interests go, I am a fan of American Football (New York Jets and Auburn Tigers) first and foremost, and also have an interest in Football (Spurs), Basketball (Orlando Magic), Ice Hockey (Buffalo Sabres) and Formula 1 sports-wise. As well as sports, I am a keen reader – generally non-fiction, although I have been known to read Harry Potter (amongst others!) as soon as I have bought them… Most of the books I have bought recently have involved sports, politics or history – in particular the Medieval Era, American History, and the UK Post-WW2.
Politically…. Why am I a Conservative? Well, I joined the Party shortly before the 2005 General Election, as I was realistic about the chances that the Conservatives would lose, and also that it was likely Michael Howard would stand down as the Party Leader – I wanted a say in voting for his replacement, and I backed David Cameron from the off in the leadership race. But why the Tories in the first place? I am a Conservative primarily on three counts; 1) I believe in value for money and efficiency, 2) I believe we should be in charge of our own destiny, not the state, and 3) I believe in the free market and competition. I would also like to add at this point that socially, I’m quite liberal, not ‘conservative’; basically, a Libertarian Conservative!
